Maseno School, one of Kenya’s most prestigious learning institutions, is set to celebrate 120 years of excellence, unveiling ambitious plans for a major infrastructural revamp aimed at balancing modernization with the preservation of its rich heritage.

Founded in 1906 in Kisumu County, the iconic institution has long stood as a symbol of academic excellence and discipline, producing generations of influential leaders across the country and beyond. As preparations for the milestone anniversary gather momentum, the school’s leadership, in collaboration with its alumni, is charting a transformative path focused on upgrading facilities while safeguarding its historic identity.

Speaking ahead of the celebrations, Deputy Principal in charge of Administration, Rev. Helkana Alila, underscored the institution’s commitment to a carefully planned facelift that will retain Maseno’s architectural and cultural heritage.
He noted that the modernization drive will focus on key areas, including the renovation of classrooms, expansion of student accommodation, and enhancement of learning resources to align with current educational demands.
“While we celebrate 120 years of existence, we must take a keen interest in revamping our infrastructure to meet modern standards, even as we uphold the values that define us,” said Rev. Alila.
The anniversary is expected to attract high-profile guests, including alumni, government officials, and key education stakeholders, reflecting the school’s enduring national significance. Organisers say the celebrations will not only honour the institution’s storied past but also set the tone for its future trajectory.

Despite the planned upgrades, the school has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving its long-standing traditions, including discipline, academic rigour, and strong moral grounding, hallmarks that have defined Maseno School for over a century.
As the institution marks this historic milestone, the message remains clear: honour the past while embracing the future. The 120th anniversary stands not just as a commemoration but as a strategic step towards ensuring Maseno School remains a pillar of excellence for generations to come.
