Kisumu Central MP Dr. Joshua Odongo Oron has issued a stern warning against any attempts to abolish the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), emphasizing its crucial role in enhancing education infrastructure and supporting learners nationwide.

Speaking on Friday, January 24, at Manyatta Comprehensive School during the handover of a newly constructed six-classroom storey building funded by the Kisumu Central NG-CDF, Dr. Oron highlighted the fund’s transformative impact.

“Without NG-CDF, many schools will struggle to develop modern infrastructure, and countless students in secondary schools, universities, colleges, and other institutions will face severe challenges,” he cautioned.

The MP stressed that the fund not only enables infrastructure projects but also provides essential bursaries to thousands of learners, helping families who would otherwise struggle to afford education.

“We cannot allow NG-CDF to be scrapped. It must remain in place to support families and ensure access to education. In fact, the fund needs to expand to ease the burden parents face, especially with the demands of the new curriculum for grades six to nine,” he stated.

The call comes amid concerns raised last year when some senators proposed scrapping the NG-CDF, a move that was thwarted after significant opposition from MPs.

The new classrooms at Manyatta Comprehensive School, built at a cost of KSh 13 million, mark a significant improvement for the institution, which has long struggled with aging infrastructure. Renovation work at neighboring Kosawo School, amounting to KSh 4 million, is also underway, with additional classroom upgrades planned for both schools in the coming months.

Truphena Diang’a, the headteacher of Manyatta Comprehensive, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Oron for the development.

“This is the first modern building we’ve seen in Manyatta, thanks to your leadership. We urge you to continue supporting us,” she said.

Dr. Oron reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing education through NG-CDF investments, calling for broader support to protect and enhance the fund’s impact.
