More than 6,000 students from across Kenya have descended on Kisumu City for the 2026 Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) National Championship.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta International Sports Stadium, Mamboleo, Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary in the State Department of Basic Education, issued a stern warning against age cheating.

“We have noted instances of age-related dishonesty among some competitors. Any teacher or administrator involved will face strict disciplinary action in coordination with TSC. No shortcuts, no lies, fair competition is non-negotiable,” Bitok said.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili said the county had provided Mamboleo Stadium free of charge to support the championship and praised President William Ruto for commissioning Moi Stadium, which he said will further enhance sporting activities in the region.

The championship runs through April 11, 2026, featuring competitions in athletics, rugby, hockey, basketball, swimming, and handball.
