Thirteen police officers, including both senior and junior ranks, have been arrested and detained in connection with the escape of six robbery with violence suspects from the basement holding cells of the Siaya Law Courts.

The incident, which occurred on the night of May 5 and was officially recorded under OB No. 46/5/5/2025 at 2257 hours, has triggered a major security review at the court facility. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Siaya is spearheading an intensive probe to determine whether any of the officers were complicit in the escape.
The detained officers have been identified as:
- CPL Joan Komen (No. 83659)
- CPL Philip Soita (No. 58770)
- PC Hannington Kidadi (No. 96373)
- PC Cyril Murombo (No. 76674)
- PC Michael Kipkemei (No. 119811)
- PC Collins Kibet (No. 124386)
- PC Erastus Makenzie (No. 257318)
- PC Samwel Ombesa (No. 124614)
- PC John Mulwa (No. 117006)
- PC Fanuel Chacha (No. 260763)
- PC Wallecks Asugo (No. 116860)
- PC Evans Toel (No. 229459)
- PC David Matheka (No. 258145)
The group is being held in custody as investigations continue into whether any procedural breaches, negligence, or deliberate facilitation played a role in the escape. Law enforcement sources have confirmed that the officers will remain behind bars pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Authorities have labeled the breach a “serious compromise” of security protocols and promised swift action should any officer be found culpable. The escaped suspects, considered dangerous, were being held on charges of robbery with violence and remain at large.
The DCI has urged the public to report any information that could lead to the rearrest of the fugitives, even as internal investigations proceed.
