Police in Rangwe have arrested a man accused of killing his wife after a night of heavy drinking in Kamenya Sub-Location, East Kochia, Rangwe Sub-County.

George Oniala, alias Sadam, is alleged to have caused the death of his wife, Judith Moraa, after dragging her along a rocky path on Wednesday night.

According to police and local administrators, the couple was returning home from a drinking joint when Moraa, reportedly too drunk to walk and too heavy for her husband to carry, was pulled on the rough ground, sustaining deep cuts and bruises on her head and lower back.

Oniala allegedly abandoned her by the roadside. She was discovered dead the following morning.

East Kochia Location Chief Lilian Achieng confirmed the incident, saying villagers found the body and reported the matter to authorities.

“The two were extremely drunk. Oniala dragged his wife on the stony path and later left her in the cold. By morning, she had succumbed to the injuries and the cold night,” said Achieng.

She urged residents to avoid excessive drinking, especially illicit brews, warning that alcohol abuse was tearing apart families in the area.

The family has previously faced tragedy after their daughter was raped and killed by a man posing as a pastor.

Oniala is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
