Vulnerable households, adolescent girls, and young women in Kisumu County have received a major boost after USAID 4TheChild Project flagged off productive business assets worth KSh12,866,594.

According to USAID 4TheChild Chief of Party George Okoth, the support targeted 433 vulnerable households and 312 adolescent girls and young women to help them start and sustain income-generating activities.

“Today we were flagging off the productive business assets worth KSh12,866,594 to 433 vulnerable households and 312 adolescent girls and young women in Kisumu County. This year alone, we have served over 30,000 beneficiaries, including more than 6,000 children living with HIV and 14,206 DREAMS girls,” Okoth said.

He noted that the initiative goes beyond asset distribution, as the project also invests in education support.
“We have paid school fees amounting to KSh17 million for children within Kisumu County. USAID 4TheChild operates in five counties including Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Busia, and Bungoma,” Okoth revealed, thanking the U.S. government for sustained support.

Deputy Governor Mathew Owili, who presided over the flag-off, lauded the program for transforming lives across the region.
“Since 2021, the USAID 4TheChild Project has delivered life-changing progress in strengthening healthcare and improving socio-economic outcomes across the county,” Owili said.

“To augment these efforts, I flagged off the distribution of productive business assets worth KSh12,866,594 to 433 vulnerable households and 312 adolescent girls and young women. These interventions will empower recipients with the tools to launch and grow micro-enterprises, achieve financial independence, and sustainably support their families,” he added.

The event, held at the USAID offices in Kisumu, was attended by senior county officials including CECs Jerome Ochieng and Farida Salim.
