Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Friday officially commissioned the newly constructed Kisumu East Sub-County Police Headquarters in a colourful ceremony held at Kasagam village.

The state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the working conditions of police officers and enhance national security infrastructure.

Speaking during the launch, Dr. Omollo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to police welfare, underlining President William Samoei Ruto’s broader security and development agenda.

“The government is keen on ensuring that our officers have dignified working environments. Security is the foundation of development, and we are making significant strides in achieving that,” said Omollo.

The PS commended Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir for the prudent use of public resources in delivering a modern police headquarters. He also praised the local community for their cooperation in supporting security initiatives.

Omollo further announced that the government plans to recruit 10,000 new police officers as part of efforts to bolster national security and address youth unemployment. He highlighted ongoing government programs including the affordable housing initiative and digital job creation platforms as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s strategy to empower young people.

Former Kisumu West MP and current Chairman of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) Commission, Olago Aluoch, who also attended the event, revealed that four police stations have been established in Kisumu East—namely Kasagam, Chiga, Ragumo, and Gita.

He added that construction of twelve additional Administration Police units is underway in areas such as Gita, Rweya, Ragumo, and Obwolo, with some already complete.

Local administrators, regional police bosses, and community leaders graced the high-profile event, which symbolized a renewed focus on grassroots security and service delivery.

The commissioning of the new Kisumu East police headquarters is expected to significantly enhance timely response, inter-agency coordination, and overall policing efficiency in the region.
