Police in Seme have arrested a 47-year-old woman accused of setting her 12-year-old son on fire, leading to his death from severe burn injuries.

According to a police report filed at Kombewa Police Station under OB 19/23/09/2025, the victim, identified as Brian Ochieng, succumbed to 90 percent burns on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Kombewa County Hospital.

The boy had been rushed to the hospital late Monday night by neighbors who rescued him while engulfed in flames at their Nyamgun home. Officers who visited the scene recovered a partially burnt blue T-shirt believed to have been worn by the victim.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, Jacinter Akinyi, allegedly doused her son with kerosene and set him ablaze after accusing him of stealing KSh150. Police noted that the incident followed a scuffle, and described the deceased as a habitual petty thief.

The suspect has since been arrested and is being held at Kombewa Police Station. She is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, September 24.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Kombewa County Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
