Kisumu City Manager, Abala Wanga, today led a multi-sectoral committee in a thorough inspection of the Main Bus Park, focusing on critical areas including cleanliness, lighting, and security. The inspection was part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safer and more efficient environment for both commuters and vendors.

The committee included key officials such as Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander Kizito Mutoro, Kisumu Central Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Langat, and the Administration Police Commander for Kisumu Central. Together, they emphasized the need for a clean and secure space to enhance business operations and overall public safety.
Wanga emphasized the significance of this initiative, highlighting that regular inspections would be conducted monthly to maintain high standards at public service facilities, improve safety, and build trust in the city’s infrastructure.
“A clean and secure environment is essential for the ecosystem and for creating a conducive environment for business,” said Wanga, noting that the park hosts a diverse community of businesspeople.
The inspections also aimed to tackle security issues within the park, particularly focusing on areas known for criminal activities, such as the illicit sale of stolen goods and illegal alcohol. Wanga revealed that several hotspots for these activities had been identified, and appropriate action, including police arrests, would be taken.
“We have identified and mapped out areas where criminal activities are rampant, and we’ve authorized police to take action against offenders,” he explained.

Additionally, Wanga noted the presence of idle kiosks, which had become havens for criminal activity at night, promising to have them demolished. He urged the business community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity within the park.
The inspection also called for improvements in the park’s cleanliness, with plans to increase the frequency of cleaning and install better security lighting. Wanga also addressed the issue of street children who have been involved in theft, vowing to address this by improving security measures.
The multi-sectoral committee’s efforts are part of a broader plan to improve safety and cleanliness across Kisumu’s Central District, with similar inspections expected to take place in other business areas.
