Mystery in Kisumu: Man found dead in lodging hours after escorting woman out

Police in Kisumu are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man suspected to have taken his own life at a lodging facility in the Kondele area.

The deceased, identified as Geoffrey Okonjo Owuor, is reported to have spent the night at the lodging with an unidentified woman. According to preliminary accounts, the two had breakfast together on Sunday morning before Owuor escorted the woman out and returned to his room, where he locked himself in.

Lodging management said staff visited the room on the morning of Sunday, April 12, 2026, during routine checks ahead of cleaning, only to find Owuor lying unresponsive.

Authorities were immediately notified, and officers responded to the scene before moving the body to the mortuary at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Police have launched investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
