Police in Kisumu West Sub-county have launched a manhunt for two suspected robbers who escaped after they were caught allegedly breaking into a shop at Holo Trading Centre in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred at around 4:40 a.m. after police received a distress call from businessman Dan Apilo, who reported that three men were breaking into a shop.
Kisumu West Sub-county Police Commander (OCPD) Analo Phanton said he immediately alerted officers who were on patrol, and they swiftly responded to the scene, where they found the suspects in the act.
According to Phanton, the officers managed to corner the three suspects, but two escaped into the darkness after one of them charged at the officers while armed with a machete. The officers were forced to fire warning shots into the air to repel the attackers, who were reportedly armed with machetes and other crude weapons.
One suspect, identified as 27-year-old Erick Ochieng Ogutu, surrendered after the warning shots were fired. He was disarmed, subdued and taken into police custody.

Police recovered several suspected stolen items, including pangas, a metal bar, a 6kg K-Gas cylinder and assorted water taps believed to have been stolen from other locations.
The suspect is being held as investigations continue, while detectives pursue the two fugitives. The case has been booked at Holo Police Station under P.B.C., with investigations ongoing.
