A family in Orongo, Kolwa East, Kisumu East Sub-County, is demanding justice after a 23-year-old man, Edward Otieno Oyuru, was fatally injured during a dispute over a wheelbarrow.

According to a police report filed at Kasagam Police Station under REF MY OB. NO. 10/11/01/2025 at 12:10 PM, the victim’s father, Nicanor Oruko Ooko, 52, reported that his son was attacked by Ford Rakwach, a local construction subcontractor.
The altercation allegedly began when Otieno went to retrieve his wheelbarrow from Rakwach’s premises. Otieno had reportedly worked for Rakwach the previous day but had not been paid. Upon realizing Otieno had taken the wheelbarrow in his absence, an enraged Rakwach armed himself with a crude weapon and confronted the young man. The dispute escalated into violence, leaving Otieno with severe head injuries.
Otieno was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. His body is currently at the hospital’s morgue awaiting an autopsy.
The suspect, Rakwach, fled the scene and remains at large. Police and detectives from Kisumu East Sub-County are actively searching for him.
The victim’s family is appealing for swift action, demanding justice for their loss. This tragic incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the deadly consequences of minor disputes.
