After months of evading law enforcement, murder suspect Samuel Otieno Odak, 31, was arrested Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at approximately 11:10 A.M. Odak is accused in the July 1, 2024, brutal murders at Kibuye Market, where two individuals, Evans Opiyo and Mohamed Saleh, were hacked to death in a dispute over control of toilet revenue.

A police team led by the Station Police Officer of Kondele and DCI officials tracked Odak to his home in Kadero village, Seme Sub-County. Although Odak was not initially found on the premises, his brother Victor provided critical information that led officers to Odak’s hiding place near Awach River. Police cordoned off the area and, after a tense pursuit through the riverside bush, apprehended Odak, who was escorted to the station under heavy security.

Odak’s capture follows the recent October 7 arrest of his alleged accomplice, Oliver Ochieng Jaoko, alias “Oliveti,” who was detained by Kondele-based DCI officers at his residence in Manyatta. With four suspects now in custody for the Kibuye Market homicides, police urge the public to share any information that could help bring all perpetrators of violent crimes in Kisumu to justice.
