Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club charged into the KVF Men’s League with unstoppable energy, clinching two big wins against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as the season began at Kamukunji Grounds, Nyeri County. The defending champs first overcame KPA in a fiery 3-1 showdown and then edged out KDF in a thrilling 3-2 battle, proving they’re the team to beat.

The opening match against KPA was a nail-biter, with both teams locked in a tense point-for-point race. Ultimately, Prisons broke through, taking the sets 25-20, 24-26, 25-23, and 25-23. Head coach Dennis Mokua praised the team’s drive, saying, “Starting with wins is a big boost. I’m proud of my boys, and we’re here to keep this momentum strong into the next rounds.”
Meanwhile, Trail Blazers bounced back from their loss to Prisons with a commanding 3-0 win over Kenya Army and a 3-1 victory against AP Kenya. Equity Bank also impressed with a 3-0 sweep of Base Yetu, while Prisons Rift Valley defeated KAPU 3-1. Later, KPA redeemed themselves with a swift 3-0 win against Kenya Army, bringing relief to coach James Ontere.
In the women’s league, Kenya Pipeline took center stage, narrowly overcoming Post Bank 3-0, while DCI swept Maratha in straight sets, and Kenya Prisons Women celebrated a win against Young Spikers. Kenya Army capped the day with a fast-paced 3-0 triumph over Vihiga Volleyball Club.
As the league action at Kamukunji heats up, anticipation grows for the Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s Cup, promising an action-packed weekend across both men’s and women’s volleyball.
