The Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s elite Emergency Response Team (ERT) showcased exceptional shooting skills, securing the top spot at the Annual Disciplined Forces Shoot, 2024, held at Bamburi Rifle Club in Mombasa.

The DCI team clinched 13 trophies, leading the scoreboard while leaving only 21 trophies for other participating forces, including the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya Prisons, Kenya Police Service (KPS), and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). These teams took home 6, 8, 3, 2, and 2 trophies respectively, competing across seven rigorous categories.

According to a DCI report, Alvince Osura, Officer Commanding DCI ERT at the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, opened the pistol range with precise shots, setting a high standard for the competition.

“Other shooters from the team followed suit, to the despair of other medal hopefuls,” the report noted.

Agnes Wangechi’s impressive performance further secured DCI’s lead, likened to a “miracle at Capernaum,” helping the team take home 13 trophies and leaving the awards table nearly empty.

Engineer Sammy Onyango, the team’s official trainer and African Rifle Champion, was filled with pride as he witnessed the team’s outstanding reception from fellow competitors. Onyango, who introduced the team to sports shooting five years ago, has since refined their skills, resulting in their current success.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the event organizer and Chairman of Bamburi Rifle Club, Mr. Abdulhakim Daud, VC Bamburi Rifle Club Mr. Ramadhan Mohamed, and Changamwe Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Mr. Robert Kiinge.
