A female-founded start-up, E-Safiri Charging Limited, has partnered with Awuoth Widows and Orphans CBO to revolutionize the lives of over 400 widows in rural Kenya through sustainable transport and cold storage solutions.

These widows, deeply affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, rely on farming African leafy vegetables to support their families. However, limited access to affordable transportation has long hindered their ability to profit from their hard work, cutting into their earnings and perpetuating poverty.

E-Safiri’s initiative focuses on e-mobility solutions that provide women with eco-friendly electric three-wheelers and cold storage facilities. This not only enables them to transport produce more efficiently but also opens doors to financial independence, green job opportunities, and reduced carbon emissions in underserved communities.

“By supporting this campaign, you directly help women gain the freedom and resources they need to improve their livelihoods while contributing to a sustainable future,” E-Safiri stated.

Though the organization has established a charging hub and cold storage in Nyamasaria, Kisumu County, funds are still needed to provide electric three-wheelers for the widows. The initiative, launched on M-Changa, aims to secure donor support for this transformative project.

Past successes, such as the 2023 SUN-RUN project, demonstrate the life-changing potential of e-mobility. Transport costs for farmers dropped by half, and access to reliable cold storage increased their revenue by 50%. These widows accessed new markets, boosting their incomes further.

“Our mission is to accelerate Africa’s transition to sustainable transportation while empowering rural women to thrive economically and environmentally,” E-Safiri reiterated.

With transport costs currently swallowing their profits—$13.86 for every 300kg of produce, compared to earnings of $34.62—affordable e-mobility solutions are poised to break the cycle of poverty for these hard-working women.

E-Safiri and Awuoth Widows and Orphans CBO are calling on well-wishers and donors to invest in this impactful project, enabling widows to achieve economic independence and a sustainable future.
