The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has urged political leaders in the Luo region to embrace tolerance and shun violence as the country counts down to the 2027 General Election.

Dr. Omollo made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with political leaders in the Masara area, Suna West, Migori County, before proceeding to a church service at Sota SDA Church in Nyatike Sub-county.

He revealed that leaders from the region had unanimously agreed to uphold peace and ensure that political competition does not degenerate into hostility or bloodshed.

“We have agreed with the leaders of Migori County that going forward, our political differences, especially among those vying for the same seats, will not be the reason residents fight. That must not be why our youth clash or kill one another,” said Dr. Omollo.

The PS called on aspirants to allow their competitors equal space to market their manifestos, emphasizing that intolerance and disruptions at political meetings would not be condoned.

“Every leader vying for a political seat must be given an opportunity to speak and share his or her agenda. If you are not interested in a particular leader’s message, then simply do not attend their meetings,” he said.

Dr. Omollo further disclosed that leaders and residents had resolved to focus on development rather than divisive presidential politics, declaring support for President William Ruto’s second-term bid in 2027.

“We have agreed that there will be no debate about the presidency here. Our conversation now is about development. We will support President Ruto’s second term,” he stated.

He cautioned residents against being swayed by politicians advocating for a one-term presidency, urging them instead to turn out in large numbers to register as voters.

“Let us not allow anyone to distract us by telling us to stop supporting President Ruto. We must register as voters in large numbers,” he added.

The PS also lauded hundreds of residents in Masara who turned up for the ongoing national identification card registration exercise, expressing gratitude to President Ruto for allocating funds to make the process free countrywide.

“No Kenyan is paying to replace a lost ID or to register for a new one. Across the country, citizens can now access identification cards at no cost. Here in Masara, we have seen hundreds register, which will enable them to acquire voter cards and elect leaders of their choice,” he said.

Dr. Omollo was accompanied by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Suna West MP Peter Masara, and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, among other local leaders.
