The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has ordered Kisumu City Manager Michael Abala Wanga to appear at its headquarters, Integrity Centre, Nairobi, for arraignment in court over corruption and forgery-related offences.

In a letter released to media houses on Thursday evening, the commission confirmed that it had obtained the concurrence of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to press charges against Wanga following investigations into allegations of forgery and fraudulent conduct.
According to the EACC, Wanga is accused of using forged academic certificates to fraudulently secure his position as Kisumu City Manager.
Additionally, the commission alleges that Wanga used falsified documents to facilitate travel and allowances for a female non-staff member, who accompanied him on an official trip to Lagos, Nigeria, between July 8 and 12, 2024, under the false pretense that she was an employee of the County Government of Kisumu.

EACC stated that the suspect will face multiple charges, including forgery contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, fraudulent acquisition of public property, uttering false documents, and presentation of forged certificates contrary to Section 34(a) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.
If convicted, the city manager could face severe penalties, including imprisonment and removal from public office.
