The government has confirmed that Homa Bay County is fully prepared to host the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The assurance follows a final inspection of the Raila Odinga Stadium by Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, who declared that all preparations, security, protocol, and logistics are in place.

Dr. Omollo, who chairs the Madaraka Day National Steering Committee, led the final review on Saturday, stating that the 12,000-seater stadium is ready for the national event.

“We have done everything expected of us. All guests who attend the event will be well taken care of,” he said.

He praised the coordination by multi-agency teams involved in the planning process and urged the public to cooperate with security personnel. Attendees are required to be seated by 8:30 a.m., ahead of the arrival of President Dr. William Ruto and his official delegation.

President Ruto is scheduled to preside over the celebrations, which will also be attended by the President of Slovenia, Natasa Pirc Musar, who is expected as a special guest. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live across various platforms.

Dr. Omollo encouraged the residents of Homa Bay County to welcome the influx of visitors from across Kenya and to play their part in making the national event a success.

This year’s Madaraka Day theme centers on the blue economy and maritime affairs, a strategic focus chosen in line with Homa Bay’s proximity to Lake Victoria. The celebrations follow the conclusion of a three-day national conference on the blue economy, which ended on Friday, May 30. The event was officially closed by President Ruto alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“The focus this Madaraka Day is how best we can sustainably exploit the resources within the blue economy space,” said Dr. Omollo. “Homa Bay, as part of Lake Victoria, stands at the heart of that agenda.”

As the country prepares to commemorate its 62nd year of self-governance, Homa Bay is set to showcase not only its hospitality and infrastructure but also its emerging role in Kenya’s development agenda.
