The release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results has ushered in a wave of celebration in Kisumu County, as schools recorded impressive performances despite challenges faced during the academic year. Principals, leaders, and stakeholders took time to reflect on the results and the strides made in education.

Lions High School: Overcoming Challenges for Success

Principal Eudia Oyier of Lions High School expressed pride in her students’ performance, especially considering the obstacles many faced. Out of 521 candidates, three achieved B+, three scored B plain, 18 attained B-, and 32 earned C+ grades, qualifying them for university admission. Additionally, over 300 students are set to join middle-level and vocational colleges.

“This was a special class,” Oyier noted. “Being a 100% transition class, we embraced students with several learning challenges and ensured they completed their education. Some came from extremely difficult backgrounds, including a student who was homeless but showed incredible resilience. We provided meals and support, ensuring he could focus on his studies.”

Oyier emphasized the need to push for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs, noting their potential to equip students with skills for self-employment. “If we embrace TVETs, every student can access education suited to their capabilities, creating opportunities for gainful employment,” she added.

Kisumu Girls: A Legacy of Discipline and Excellence

Kisumu Girls High School celebrated a stellar performance under the new leadership of Principal Dorine Odhiambo. With 359 candidates, 318 achieved C+ and above. Odhiambo attributed the success to the students’ resilience, discipline, and support from teachers and parents.

“Despite being here for just a day, I am thrilled to join Kisumu Girls at a time of such great results. Discipline and teamwork have been key,” said Odhiambo, flanked by the school’s academic head and other administrators.
