Kisumu East police have stepped up efforts to combat crime and illicit alcohol production, executing a series of high-impact raids that have resulted in arrests and the recovery of stolen goods.

Suspect Arrested in Manyatta B Raid

On Monday evening, officers from Nyamasaria Police Post, while patrolling the Manyatta B slum, received a tip-off about a suspicious individual at Daraja Mbili. The suspect, reportedly seen transporting a large machine into his rental house, was swiftly investigated.

Speaking to The Kenyan Tabloid on Tuesday, December 17, Kisumu East OCPD Edward Masibo Wafula disclosed that additional officers were mobilized, culminating in a raid on the suspect’s residence.

“The rental house in Daraja Mbili was thoroughly searched, and we apprehended a 25-year-old Ugandan national, Silas Kiayi Wandera. Several suspected stolen items were recovered, including a planetary food mixer, a Honda motorcycle (registration number KMDY 479Y), and a chips frying oven,” Wafula stated.

He confirmed that the suspect is in police custody, undergoing processing, while the recovered items are documented and awaiting identification by their rightful owners.

Illicit Brew Operation Dismantled in Gita

In a separate operation targeting illicit alcohol production, Kisumu East police raided a concealed brewing site in Gita Ward, Kombe Location, following actionable intelligence from the public.

The site, hidden in dense forest cover, was dismantled during the raid. Police arrested four suspects and destroyed 3,000 liters of kangara, a locally distilled illegal brew, along with the equipment used in its production.

“This was a decisive operation to disrupt illicit brewing activities. The suspects were detained and processed before appearing in Winam Court today,” Wafula confirmed.

Collaboration with the Community

OCPD Wafula commended residents for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the public and police.

“We appreciate the community’s support in sharing intelligence. These operations will continue until we eliminate crime and the harmful effects of illicit brews,” Wafula assured.

The Kisumu East police’s ongoing crackdown underscores their commitment to addressing criminal activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of local residents.
