Police in Ahero, Nyando Sub-County, have arrested a woman found transporting 60 brooms of bhang worth Ksh 388,500 on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. The suspect, Margaret Akello Ouma, was apprehended after boarding a matatu, registration number KDG 874Z, operated by KITOMA Sacco at Nyamasaria.
Ahero OCS Naomi Achieng Owuor confirmed the arrest while speaking to The Kenyan Tabloid, explaining that officers acted swiftly on a tip-off.
“The suspect boarded the matatu with her luggage wrapped in a black polythene bag and placed inside a sack. My officers set up an ambush and intercepted the vehicle. A search revealed 60 brooms of bhang,” Achieng stated.
The suspect was placed in custody at Ahero Police Station, pending processing and arraignment in court. Crime scene personnel assessed the marijuana, confirming its weight and valuing it at Ksh 388,500.
“The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Ochieng added.
This operation underscores the efforts of law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region, sending a strong message to those involved in illegal activities.
