The Obungu Owich Super Tournament officially launched its second edition in spectacular style, drawing thousands of enthusiastic residents from Manyatta and Kondele to the Manyatta Primary School grounds. Dubbed “Vijana Tuache Dimbo, Tucheze Dimba”, the tournament is a beacon of hope and unity in the Kondele ward, aiming to nurture young talent while fostering peace and harmony.

Speaking during the event, Sospeter Obungu Owich, the leader of the Bunge la Wananchi caucus and the Sufuria Movement, emphasized the importance of the initiative.

“This tournament is about empowering our youth, uniting our community, and promoting peaceful coexistence,” Owich stated. “Through football, we want young people to interact, develop a spirit of togetherness, and leave behind negative behaviors. The theme, ‘Tuache Dimbo, Tucheze Dimba,’ is a call to embrace a positive path.”

Owich highlighted the tournament’s role in addressing past challenges, such as insecurity, and praised local youth for initiating transformative activities.

The Teams and Stakes

The tournament has brought together 12 teams, including Oporo Base FC, White House FC, Wajonya FC, Kosawo Teachers FC, Migwena FC, Border House FC, Gonda FC, Kona Maji FC, Kosawo Hall FC, Konambaya FC, Shule FC, and Sije FC.

The competition kicked off on a high note on Monday, December 30, with standout performances from Oporo Base FC, Wajonya FC, Migwena FC, Kona Maji, Kona Mbaya, and Shule FC, all advancing to the second round scheduled for Tuesday, December 31.

The stakes are high, with the winning team set to receive Ksh 20,000, while the runners-up and third-place teams will take home Ksh 15,000 and Ksh 10,000, respectively. Individual accolades, including Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Referee, will also be awarded, with recipients walking away with a set of uniforms.

Grand Finale

The tournament’s climax on December 31 promises to be a grand affair, graced by renowned lawyer Willis Otieno as the guest of honor.

As the tournament gains momentum, the Obungu Owich Super Tournament is more than just a game—it’s a movement uniting Kondele’s residents under the banner of peace, talent, and progress.
