Shule FC emerged as champions of the second edition of the Obungu Owich Super Tournament after defeating Wajonya FC 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout at Manyatta Primary School grounds on Tuesday evening.

The game was tightly contested, with Shule FC dominating the first half before Wajonya FC found their rhythm in the second. Despite several intense moments, both teams’ defenses held firm, leading to a goalless draw and the need for penalties to determine the winner.

Fans briefly interrupted the match twice as tensions rose after heavy tackles from Wajonya FC players left two Shule FC players injured. Police officers from Kondele were called in to restore order, ensuring the game continued smoothly.

In the semifinals, Wajonya FC secured their spot in the final with a 2-0 victory over Border House, while Shule FC edged past Manyatta Gonda 1-0. In the third-place playoff, Border FC defeated Gonda FC 1-0 to claim the bronze medal.

The winners took home Sh20,000 in prize money along with a glittering trophy, while the runners-up and third-place teams earned Sh15,000 and Sh10,000, respectively. Individual awards were also presented to the best referee, player, goalkeeper, and top scorer.

Obungu Owich, leader of the Sufuria Movement and tournament sponsor, expressed gratitude to all 12 participating teams, emphasizing the event’s spirit of unity.

“All the teams are winners. There were no losers,” he remarked.

Chief Guest and renowned lawyer Willis Otieno pledged future support for the tournament, suggesting it expand to include women and disabled players.

The two-day soccer event, held under the theme “Vijana Tuwache Dimbo, Tucheze Dimba,” highlighted the transformative power of sports in bringing communities together.
