Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, has donated full playing kits to Nyanza region football champions Agai Secondary School in Nyakach Constituency, Kisumu County, as they prepare for the national school games set to kick off next week in Kakamega.

Owalo, who was accompanied by celebrated Kenyan football legends including John Bobby Ogolla, Peter Dawo, George Onyango ‘Fundi’, James Goro Oronge, and Isaiah ‘Janabi’ Omondi, said the donation was aimed at inspiring the team to greater heights.

“We are here to motivate the boys as they represent Nyanza at the nationals next week. Today, we have donated 18 tracksuits and 17 playing kits to the team. But more importantly, we brought soccer legends who have walked this journey, to show them that from humble beginnings, they too can rise and become household names in Kenyan football,” said Owalo.

John Bobby Ogolla, a veteran of Kenyan football, praised Agai’s performance in the Nyanza regional games, describing their play as brilliant. He encouraged the team to tighten observed weaknesses ahead of the national showpiece.

Later, Owalo proceeded to St. Mary’s School Yala where he donated a set of basketball kits and participated in an exhibition game against the school’s basketball team. He was accompanied by basketball legends Ronny Owino, Philip ‘The Eagle’ Omany, Ken K’Odula, George Omedo, Seth Madison, Dave Michael, and Evans Wanjara.

“We’ve done the same for St. Mary’s as we’ve done for other schools. You’ll recall we hosted a basketball tournament last year with 26 high schools from the six counties of Nyanza. This is part of our effort to promote grassroots sports. There’s immense talent, they only need a bit more stamina and structure to go far,” Owalo noted.

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two national football games are scheduled to begin next week in Kakamega.
