Nyakach parliamentary aspirant for the 2027 General Election, Okoth Opande, popularly known as Mulla, has declared that no candidate will secure victory through violence. Addressing recent incidents of political unrest in Nyakach that have left two of his key supporters with serious injuries, Opande urged his competitors to commit to peaceful campaigning.

“Political thuggery won’t secure anyone a win,” he said, stressing that his work within the community is his campaign’s strength. Opande pledged to collaborate with the current MP, Aduma Owuor, to address escalating violence, warning that if the situation persists, he will escalate the matter to the party leadership.
Speaking at a delegates’ meeting at Onege Primary School in Nyakach Sub-county, chaired by ODM party national chairperson Governor Gladys Wanga, Opande voiced his support for the new party leadership. He highlighted the party’s strength over the years, rallying support for acting Party Leader, Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and announced local celebrations for the ODM party’s upcoming 20th anniversary.
Governor Wanga echoed Opande’s stance against violence, issuing a warning to those fueling political unrest in Nyakach.
Political competition can’t be won with violence,” she said, adding that ODM will take disciplinary action against any leader promoting unrest.
Rangwe MP Dr. Lilian Gogo supported Opande’s call for peace, affirming that no blood should be shed in Nyakach or across Nyanza for political reasons. “I appeal to the people of Nyakach, please reject violence,” she urged.
