A section of Kisumu residents led by Kisumu County Professionals chairman Dr Edwin Gor has declared support for presidential hopeful Eliud Owalo following the launch of the Friends of Eliud Owalo, Kisumu Chapter on Wednesday in Kisumu.

Speaking to the media after the launch, Dr Gor said Owalo’s agenda aligns with the aspirations of Kenyans, arguing that his candidature is anchored on economic liberation, what he described as Kenya’s “third liberation.”
“His candidature is anchored on economic liberation, aptly framed as the third liberation, the economic emancipation of Kenyans from poverty, exclusion and marginalisation. This is a national mission and a noble cause,” Gor said.
The group, comprising professionals, business people, farmers, parents and other stakeholders, said the newly formed chapter will act as agents of change in mobilising support for Owalo’s agenda. They maintained that the former Cabinet Secretary has a clear and credible programme capable of addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Kisumu County, the Lake Region and the country at large.
“As professionals, business people, farmers, parents and stakeholders from Kisumu County, we announce the formation of the Friends of Eliud Owalo Kisumu Chapter and declare our support for the third liberation,” the group said in a joint statement. “Our counties need economic liberation, and we are ready to play our role as agents of change. His agenda presents clear, credible solutions to the realities facing Kisumu County and the Lake Region.”
Dr Gor said Kisumu County, despite its vast resources, has remained trapped in poverty, which he termed as systemic and normalised by prevailing economic policies. He noted that while the county is rich in assets, many residents continue to struggle, a situation he believes can be addressed through Owalo’s economic blueprint.
Owalo officially announced his presidential bid on January 10, 2026, declaring his intention to contest the top seat in the 2027 General Election, a move that has drawn mixed reactions across the political divide.
