Kisumu County Assembly Chief Whip Seth Ochieng Kanga, popularly known as Adui Nyang, has disclosed how he narrowly evaded harm during the anti-government protests that followed the 2022 election results. Speaking on Monday in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, during the commissioning of the Siburi Girls’ Dormitory, Kanga credited Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Interior, for safeguarding his life by providing vital intelligence.

Kanga revealed that PS Omollo, through his aide Kennedy Ongati, regularly tipped him off about police operations and impending threats during the politically charged protests. “If it was not for PS Dr. Raymond Omollo, I would have been killed during the past anti-government demonstrations. Kennedy Ongati would alert me to the looming danger, helping me stay safe,” Kanga stated, expressing gratitude for the PS’s efforts.

The Kisumu legislator also disclosed his interactions with former Ugunja MP and current Energy CS James Opiyo Wandayi during the demonstrations. He noted that Wandayi would coordinate activities in the capital while directing him to manage protests in Kisumu. Reflecting on the turbulent period, Kanga described the protests as a democratic exercise and praised President William Ruto for appointing influential Luo leaders like Dr. Omollo, Wandayi, and John Mbadi to key government positions. He affirmed that the Luo community remains steadfast in supporting the current administration.

Kanga also lauded President Ruto for his backing of Raila Odinga during the recent African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship election in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Despite Odinga’s loss to the Djiboutian candidate, Kanga commended Ruto for demonstrating loyalty and goodwill, adding that the AUC race revealed the true political alliances both in Kenya and across the African continent.

However, Kanga criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly stoking divisive politics, claiming that people from Gachagua’s region celebrated Odinga’s loss in the AUC election. He condemned the actions as indicative of a lack of unity and support.

As Kanga sets his sights on unseating the current Kisumu East MP in the 2027 elections, he emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the Luo community and the Ruto administration, signaling a shift in political dynamics.
