Over 70 underprivileged children from the Nyalenda slums in Kisumu received much-needed support as they prepared to return to school after the December holiday. The initiative, spearheaded by Yatima Hope CBO with support from DDB, provided stationery and personal necessities to orphans, teenage mothers, reformed street children, and children from vulnerable families.

The gesture brought smiles to the faces of many children and hope to families struggling to make ends meet as schools reopened amid economic challenges.

Organizations Urged to Step Up

During the event, DDB representative Faith Nyakiti called on other organizations and well-wishers to join efforts to support such initiatives, citing the overwhelming number of needy children across the country.

“This is a critical time as schools reopen, and many families in slums and other vulnerable areas are grappling with the cost of education amidst economic uncertainties and a new curriculum. Programs like these provide much-needed relief and a brighter future for these children,” Nyakiti said.

DDB, which started in 2003, has been impacting lives nationwide by supporting vulnerable families with food and non-food items.

“DDB is an advertising company that generates revenue through platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X, and Instagram. Part of our mission is to give back to the community through initiatives like this,” Nyakiti explained.

Empowering the Vulnerable

Collince Ochieng Odhiambo, founder of Yatima Hope CBO, emphasized the importance of extending help beyond Kisumu to other vulnerable communities across Kenya.

“DDB has shown remarkable generosity. We urge more organizations to come forward to support families who cannot afford to send their children back to school during these tough economic times,” Odhiambo said.

A Lifeline for the Future

As families face mounting challenges, the collaboration between DDB and Yatima Hope offers a lifeline to children in need, ensuring that education remains within reach. The event was a reminder of the power of collective action in transforming lives and creating a brighter future for Kenya’s underprivileged communities.
