As schools reopened this week, 60 students from Kisumu Central Constituency were awarded bursaries courtesy of the Dr. Benard Aete Foundation. Dr. Aete, popularly known as “Dume,” is a 2027 parliamentary aspirant, emphasizing education as a cornerstone of his campaign.

Speaking during a ceremony in Kisumu on Sunday, Aete reaffirmed his commitment to education, highlighting this as the second cohort of students his foundation has supported.
“Education is the major pillar of my campaign. My foundation targets students from vulnerable families to secure their future, even though they will not vote for me in the upcoming elections,” Aete stated.
He stressed that the bursary program comes with no political strings attached and urged Kisumu residents to support his vision for an inclusive and empowered constituency.
“I am not in competition with any politician. This is a partnership between myself and the people I aspire to represent in parliament,” he said.
Economic Empowerment for Women Traders
Beyond education, Dr. Aete outlined plans to uplift women traders economically. He encouraged them to form community-based organizations (CBOs) to enable structured support, including seed money to enhance their businesses.
“I want to ensure these traders receive the help they need in an organized manner. This initiative is aimed at building economic resilience among women,” Aete added.

Call for Peaceful Campaigns and Development
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Aete urged his supporters to register with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, emphasizing that their membership is crucial for collective success.
“You can’t claim to support me without being a registered ODM member. If you face any challenges registering, reach out to me for assistance,” he said.
He called on his political competitors to renounce violence and commit to peaceful campaigns, warning against divisive politics that have often led to the loss of young lives.
“We must move away from bloodshed and toxic politics. Development should be our focus, not rhetoric or violence,” he asserted.
Prayers for Raila Odinga’s AU Bid
Dr. Aete concluded by rallying prayers for ODM patron Raila Odinga, who is vying for a top African Union (AU) position next month.
“In your small way, pray for Raila Odinga to ascend to that office. It is a significant step for our community and the nation,” Aete said.
Dr. Aete’s efforts to support education, empower women, and promote peaceful development have resonated with Kisumu residents, positioning him as a leader committed to progress and inclusivity.
