Coca-Cola has slashed the price of its 500ml glass bottle from KES 60 to KES 50 in Nyanza and Western Kenya, launching a bold regional campaign titled ‘Shika Mzito’ aimed at honouring the region’s spirit, resilience, and strong community culture.

The 17% price drop applies to Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite brands and will run for three months across ten counties: Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia.
“Nyanza and Western are known for their strong community bonds. Coca-Cola’s iconic 500ml pack has always been a part of these connections,” said Weslene Orwoba, Senior Marketing Manager, Coca-Cola Kenya. “Whether after a long day in the fields, during a football match, or in everyday gatherings—these are moments that matter, and ‘Shika Mzito’ makes them even better.”
Locally referred to as madiaba, the 500ml bottle is being repositioned as a “symbol of pride and recognition”—a simple, daily reward for the region’s hardworking citizens including farmers, fishermen, boda boda riders, teachers, artisans, and football fans.

The campaign also taps into Coca-Cola’s deep roots in the region’s vibrant football culture. Nyanza and Western are home to some of Kenya’s most beloved football teams including Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Shabana FC.
“Community is everything here. ‘Shika Mzito’ is more than a campaign—it’s a celebration of togetherness and the shared joy that defines life in these regions,” added Orwoba.
By lowering the price point of its flagship bottle, Coca-Cola is sending a strong signal of brand loyalty and cultural alignment, aiming to refresh not only thirsts but also community pride and connection.
