Police in Muhoroni Sub-County have launched investigations after a human skeleton was discovered on Saturday inside an abandoned house in Ombeyi.
Confirming the incident, Muhoroni Sub-County Police Commander Fredrick Otieno Ombaka said he received a call from Irrigation Sub-Location Assistant Chief Vincent Ochieng, who reported the presence of a skeleton in the old homestead of the late Johannes Nyamache.
“When we got the report, we immediately dispatched our DCI officers from Muhoroni and the OCS Miwani. On arrival, they found a skeleton with a scar on the forehead and soil all over,” Otieno said in an exclusive interview.
The grim discovery was made by Nyamache’s grandchildren, Joseph Otieno and Florence Onyango, who had gone to clean their grandfather’s abandoned house. They stumbled upon a suspicious luggage bag which, when opened, revealed the remains.
According to police, the body was identified as that of Salin Akinyi, wife to Michael Nyamache, a son of the late Johannes Nyamache. Residents told officers that a tuk-tuk was seen delivering luggage to the compound in July, raising suspicion that the remains may have been dumped there.
Otieno revealed that the case is further complicated by the fact that Akinyi’s body was reportedly at the Star Mortuary in Kisumu, pending an ongoing murder case at the Kisumu High Court.
“We are informed there was a murder case before the Kisumu High Court and the body was being preserved at the Star Mortuary. We don’t understand how the body left the morgue, but DCI officers are pursuing the matter,” he said, noting that the remains were identified through the Legio Maria robe she was wearing.
Police said Akinyi’s husband, Michael, is alive and is being sought to assist with investigations. The remains have since been moved to the Ahero Sub-County Mortuary.
