Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakeel Shabbir is under fire after a viral video emerged showing him angrily confronting teachers at Kindu Secondary School in Kajulu Ward, accusing them of being the root cause of poor academic performance in the constituency.

In the widely circulated footage, Shabbir is seen addressing a gathering of parents, local leaders, and teachers in broad daylight, where he harshly criticized the educators. The legislator alleged that teachers have failed the community and demanded access to their work records to monitor their punctuality and presence at the school.
“Keep playing, you TSC teachers. I need your records so I can know what time you’re reporting and what you’re doing at the same time. This is our problem. We are not going to waste our time with the TSC,” Shabbir charged, adding that he had over 100 unemployed teachers ready to take over.
Tensions escalated further when the MP singled out a teacher in the crowd, publicly rebuking him for allegedly appearing disinterested.
“How dare you stand like this? Who the hell are you, Okinyo? The rest are standing with their hands down, and you’re standing holding yourself?” he shouted, as the teacher stood silently before him.
The remarks have sparked widespread condemnation from residents and leaders alike, many of whom have taken to social media to call for disciplinary action against the MP. They are urging the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to summon him over what they describe as public humiliation of educators in front of parents and students.

Kisumu County Assembly Chief Whip Seth Kanga, popularly known as Adui Nyang, dismissed the MP’s outburst as “the last kicks of a dying horse,” saying Shabbir had failed to address the constituency’s education challenges throughout his term.
“Kicks of a dying horse. So disrespectful to the entire teaching fraternity,” said Kanga.
Others accused the MP of scapegoating teachers to cover up his own leadership failures, pointing to long-standing issues such as dilapidated school infrastructure and unfulfilled development promises. Laboratories and other key facilities, they said, remain neglected despite years of oversight.
“It is disingenuous to blame teachers when the real failure lies in his leadership. He has had more than enough time to make a difference,” said one parent online.
As the controversy continues to swell, questions are being raised about the MP’s conduct, with many demanding an apology and action from relevant authorities to uphold the dignity of the teaching profession.
