Deputy Chief of Staff in the Executive Office of the President, Eliud Owalo, has called on the people of Nyanza to support the broad-based government, saying it holds the key to unlocking the region’s full development potential.

Speaking on Friday during the burial of renowned educationist Hezron Onege Anyona at Oboch village in Asembo Kochieng, Rarieda Sub-County, Owalo emphasized that the region stands to gain significantly under President William Ruto’s inclusive leadership model.

“Asembo is already seeing the fruits of this government,” said Owalo, citing ongoing rural electrification, renovation of Oboch School, road upgrades, and the construction of the Nabii Yohanna Owalo Mausoleum at the Nomiya Church headquarters as proof of meaningful development.

Owalo further disclosed plans to streamline and regulate gold mining activities in Asembo to safeguard miners’ welfare and ensure that revenue benefits the local community.

In a bold infrastructural promise, Owalo announced that the long-awaited Ring Road—designed to connect the Lake Victoria belt from Busia to Migori—is on course for realization.

“The World Bank is ready to fund this transformative project, and discussions are ongoing with the National Treasury. This will unlock the blue economy potential in the lake region,” he said.

He also outlined government strategies aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector. These include the revival of sugar factories, establishment of cotton ginneries, and the construction of an abattoir and leather processing plant in Kuria to tap into the global leather market. A tea processing facility in Kisii is also in the pipeline, targeting export growth.

Owalo urged residents not to be distracted by 2027 political debates, saying, “Let us focus on development. By 2027, the Kenya Kwanza administration will have delivered a scorecard strong enough to earn a second term.”

On education, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu echoed the call for unity and cooperation with the government. He praised the recruitment of 70,000 teachers and reassured educators that the union’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is progressing.

The late Hezron Onege Anyona, a respected educator, was the father of David Onege, the current Vice Chairman of KNUT’s City Branch.
