The stage is set for the vetting of President William Ruto’s newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries (CS), with proceedings scheduled for January 14, 2025, at County Hall within Parliament Buildings, Nairobi.

According to a schedule released by National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge, the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments will oversee the vetting process for the three nominees: Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock Development), William Kabogo (Information, Communications and the Digital Economy), and Lee Kinyanjui (Investments, Trade, and Industry).
Njoroge has invited members of the public to submit affidavits contesting the suitability of any candidate by January 3, 2025, with supporting evidence. Submissions can be sent via post, hand-delivered to Parliament Buildings, or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline.
The nominees, all former allies of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, were named shortly after President Ruto’s visit to the Kenyatta family home in Gatundu. Observers suggest the appointments aim to counter the influence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached in October.
However, President Ruto has dismissed these claims, emphasizing that the nominations are part of his broader agenda to unify the country ahead of the 2027 elections. “Our goal is to unite Kenyans and focus on transforming the country, not to create competition between political leaders,” he stated during a weekend address in Uasin Gishu County.
The nominees are expected to secure smooth approval in Parliament.
