Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has hailed the ongoing Alego Usonga Affordable Housing Project as a transformative initiative for the region’s urban development. Launched in April 2024, the project will deliver 882 modern and affordable housing units across six high-rise blocks within 18 months. With 230 workers on-site, construction is progressing swiftly, with four blocks already reaching the first-floor slab stage.

Describing the project as a cornerstone of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Omollo emphasized its role in creating jobs, boosting economic empowerment, and reshaping Siaya County’s urban landscape.
In Ugunja Sub County, another pivotal project is underway, with the completion of the Ugunja Water Treatment Plant set to bring clean water to over 20,000 residents. Currently serving 8,000 households, the plant, located in Areka village, will soon meet the needs of an expanded population, thanks to its 8,400 cubic meter treatment capacity.

Scheduled for completion in December 2024, the plant is set to enhance access to safe, purified water, benefiting communities such as Ugunja Town, Rambula, Sigomere, and Madungu. Strategic steel storage tanks will ensure efficient distribution, with additional storage in Ligega Primary School extending coverage to Sega and Ukwala.

Beyond immediate benefits, the project also serves as a training hub, offering students from local universities and technical institutions valuable hands-on experience in water treatment management.
