Speaking to The Kenyan Tabloid on Monday, December 23, 2024, from his Kisumu office, Mulai emphasized the importance of financial planning as families prepare for back-to-school expenses in January 2025. He also cautioned revelers to remain vigilant during festivities.

“Celebrate responsibly, keeping in mind the upcoming school fees, uniforms, and other expenses. Those partying should exercise caution, as idle youth may target them for robbery or other crimes,” Mulai said.

Appeals to Drivers and Law Enforcement

Mulai called on drivers, particularly in public transport, to avoid driving under the influence. “Passengers’ safety depends on sober drivers. Reckless behavior behind the wheel could lead to tragic outcomes,” he warned.

He also urged police officers conducting intensified patrols to handle the public with care. “Our goal is to ensure people celebrate without fear. Officers must prioritize safety while respecting citizens’ rights,” he said.

Focus on Parental Responsibility

The commander highlighted the critical role parents play in ensuring their children’s safety, advising against allowing minors to attend dangerous events like nightclub parties.

“Parents must take responsibility. Set aside money for your children’s education and ensure they celebrate at home safely. Authorities are monitoring how parents manage their children, and we will not tolerate scenarios where minors are involved in criminal activities,” Mulai said.

Teenage Party Raises Alarm

Mulai disclosed that police arrested 78 underage teenagers—68 boys and 10 girls—on Saturday, December 21, at a party in Mountain View Estate. The oldest among them was a Form Three student preparing for national exams.

“Parents were shocked to find their children in police custody. Although the teens were released unconditionally due to legal constraints, the incident underscores the need for parental vigilance,” he noted.

Mulai’s statements reflect a broader push by authorities to ensure a safe and crime-free festive season, urging parents and the public to prioritize caution and responsibility.
