YEGO Mobility Kenya, a rising player in the digital taxi-hailing industry, has launched a suite of enhanced security features to safeguard both drivers and passengers, setting a new standard for safety across the nation’s transport sector.

The move comes as attacks on digital taxi drivers continue to surge in Kenya. Launching the service in Kisumu, YEGO’s CEO Karanvir Singh highlighted key features, including real-time back-end trip tracking, a responsive SOS alert button, and comprehensive driver background checks. Each measure is aimed at ensuring a secure experience for everyone on board.
The real-time tracking feature allows passengers to share live trip details with up to five trusted contacts, adding a new layer of security for riders and offering peace of mind to their families.
Our backend tracking lets us monitor any abnormalities during a trip,” Singh explained. “If a route changes unexpectedly or if there’s an unusual stop, we’ll proactively reach out to both the passenger and driver. If necessary, we can dispatch security assistance to resolve the issue swiftly.”
This upgrade comes as a welcome relief for drivers, who have increasingly faced security threats while on the job, highlighted by the recent tragic death of a Mombasa-based driver. With YEGO’s commitment to a driver-friendly payment structure—82% earnings per trip, the highest in the region—the app provides a safer, fairer alternative for Kenya’s digital taxi drivers.
YEGO’s service is now available in major cities including Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Kisumu, positioning the app as a leader in the crowded taxi-hailing market. By offering a lower commission rate and enhanced security, YEGO has attracted over 25,000 drivers who are eager to operate in a safer, more profitable environment.
Imran Omoth, Chairman of the Kenya Digital Taxi Drivers Association (KDTA) in Kisumu, praised the initiative, noting a concerning rise in attacks on digital taxi drivers in the region, particularly during offline trips.
YEGO’s security measures will be a lifeline for our drivers, reducing the need for offline trips, which have left many at risk,” Omoth said.
YEGO is also solving a major cash-flow issue for drivers who cater to corporate clients. Through the app, drivers can now access their 82% share immediately—even if client payments are delayed—helping them manage their earnings more effectively.

KDTA Secretary General Paul Omolo commended YEGO for including drivers’ insights to create solutions that directly address industry challenges.
YEGO’s approach supports sustainable growth in the sector, empowering drivers to earn more while ensuring their safety on the road,” he added.
With its driver-first philosophy and robust security measures, YEGO Mobility is set to revolutionize the digital taxi industry, setting a new benchmark for others to follow.
