The government has assured Kenyans that security across the Nyanza region has been reinforced ahead of the 9th Devolution Conference, which begins Tuesday, August 12, in Homa Bay Town.

Principal Secretary for Interior and National Coordination Dr. Raymond Omollo said that county and regional security teams have mapped out all areas in Homa Bay to ensure proper coordination and comprehensive coverage during the high-profile event.

“All security apparatus are alert, not only in Homa Bay Town but also in neighboring counties bordering Homa Bay,” Dr. Omollo told reporters after inspecting the venue.

He added that all satellite towns in Homa Bay County are under heightened security, assuring delegates and visitors of their safety throughout the conference period.

Dr. Omollo further noted that major towns in Nyanza, including Kisumu, Kisii, and Migori , where many delegates are expected to spend the night  have also been secured.

“I am pleased to confirm that all is set, with robust security arrangements and seamless logistical protocols firmly in place to ensure a smooth and successful event,” he said.

The three-day conference, organized by the Council of Governors (CoG) in collaboration with various state and non-state actors, will serve as a platform for sharing best practices, experiences, and innovations in devolved governance.

This year’s theme: “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice” underscores the role of devolution as not merely a governance structure, but as an opportunity to deliver equitable and inclusive services to all Kenyans.

Dr. Omollo emphasized that the gathering is critical in strengthening Kenya’s governance and deepening the principles of devolution nationwide.
