Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu has called on the Luo community to remain steadfast in their support of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), even as former party leader Raila Odinga prepares to assume a potential leadership role in the African Union. Raila is set to contest for the AU chairmanship, with elections scheduled for February 15 in Ethiopia.

Buyu expressed confidence in Raila’s leadership prospects, urging the community to uphold unity in his absence.

“Raila has worked tirelessly to ensure we remain united as a community,” she said, emphasizing that ODM continues to embody the ideals of justice and equality for all Kenyans.

Speaking during the opening of a newly renovated facility on Tuesday, January 21, at Kawino Comprehensive Primary School, in Kisumu West sub county, funded by Sh4.7 million from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Buyu underscored ODM’s resilience and commitment.

“The orange party remains strong and focused on advocating for equal opportunities for all, regardless of tribe, religion, or background,” she stated.

Addressing grievances about marginalization, Buyu highlighted the struggles faced by the Luo community under the current administration.

“Our children are denied jobs simply because they are Luo,” she lamented, reiterating ODM’s mission to create a just and inclusive society.

Buyu also defended the NG-CDF, praising its grassroots impact on education, infrastructure, and security. She criticized calls to transfer bursary management to the national government, warning that such a move would exclude many needy students.

“NG-CDF projects are tailored to local needs through public participation, ensuring resources reach those who need them most,” she argued.

As the community hailed the school renovations, Buyu pledged further development in education, including classroom upgrades and new construction in her constituency. Local leaders at Kawino appealed for additional support to improve sanitation facilities.

Buyu reaffirmed her commitment to development and urged her constituents to protect the ODM party’s legacy, ensuring unity and progress during Raila’s anticipated leadership role on the continental stage.
