Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has addressed rumors suggesting he is eyeing the role of Interior Cabinet Secretary, a seat expected to become vacant once current office-holder Kithure Kindiki is sworn in as Deputy President. Kindiki, nominated by President William Ruto to replace impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has yet to be sworn in due to pending court cases.

In a statement on Saturday, October 26, Mohamed, who also serves as the Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly, clarified he has no interest in the Interior CS position.
I have been made aware of unfounded rumors suggesting I am pursuing the role of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, or that the ODM Party has submitted my name for consideration in this capacity,” said Mohamed.”As Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly, I hold an equally important constitutional office, and that is my current focus.”
Mohamed’s statement echoes remarks by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, who recently dismissed similar speculations about his own potential for the Interior CS role. Speaking in Rabai, Kilifi County, Ichung’wah reiterated his commitment to parliamentary leadership and serving his constituents.
“I have a job to do that I was elected for by my constituents, and I’m dedicated to it,” Ichung’wah said, in response to public suggestions that he would be a candidate for the Cabinet position.
With the Interior CS role anticipated to open soon, it remains unclear who President Ruto may select as Kindiki’s successor.
