The Cabinet was informed that 105,367 Kenyans have secured jobs abroad since July 2023, with an additional 16,943 cleared for employment opportunities since January 2024. This progress follows Kenya’s bilateral labour agreements with Germany, Austria, and other nations, including Australia, Qatar, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, the UK, Kuwait, and Northern Ireland.

“These opportunities span professional, skilled, and unskilled roles, including positions for nurses, aged-care workers, and teachers in science, mathematics, English, and physical education,” a State House dispatch revealed.

To further enhance accessibility, the Ministry of Labour has scheduled recruitment drives in all counties from November 18 to December 6, 2024.

“A new wave of recruitment will take place, with centres stationed in all counties across the Republic. The Cabinet encouraged eligible Kenyans to seize these opportunities, which would facilitate employment and skills transfer to Kenya,” the statement added.

Social and Educational Milestones

The Cabinet also received updates on the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), reporting over 14 million Kenyans registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) since the process began last month.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the upgrade of five Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) to National Polytechnics:

  • Michuki TTI
  • Mitunguu TTI
  • Ol’Lessos TTI
  • Nairobi TTI
  • Friends College of Research and Technology in Kaimosi

This raises the number of national polytechnics in Kenya from 23 to 28, advancing the country’s technical education sector.

Historic First for Kindiki

Notably, this was Kithure Kindiki’s first Cabinet meeting as Deputy President following his swearing-in two weeks ago.
