Police in Kisumu have arrested three suspects linked to a fuel siphoning syndicate in Kisumu Central. Acting on intelligence from members of the public, law enforcement officers stormed an enclosed compound near the KIWASCO area, uncovering a large-scale illegal fuel operation.

The operation was led by Kisumu Central Sub-County Police Commander Peter Mulei, Deputy County Commissioner Bosek Lang’at, and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Authorities found over 2,000 liters of diesel, 40 liters of petrol, and 20 liters of paraffin stored at the site.
“This is an illegal filling point and an unlawful business. It not only causes significant tax losses to the government but also damages vehicles through fuel alterations,” Deputy County Commissioner Lang’at stated.

The three suspects were taken into custody, while others involved remain at large. Investigations are ongoing to identify the full extent of the operation and its distribution network. Neighbors allege that the siphoned fuel is transported to undisclosed locations.
Langat urged the public to purchase fuel exclusively from licensed filling stations to avoid vehicle damage and support legitimate businesses. He also called on citizens to maintain close collaboration with law enforcement by providing timely information about such illegal activities.

Police and DCI teams continue to intensify their investigations into the matter.
