Nyamira police have arrested three men captured in a viral video viciously beating a woman and forcing her to pour soil into her ex-husband’s grave during his burial.

The suspects—Lameck Ogindo Osoro, 27, Robert Pokea Sarudi, 43, and Bismark Ondiek Sarudi, 40—are in custody at a local police station, awaiting arraignment in the Nyamira Sub-County court tomorrow.

Authorities are still pursuing other suspects involved in the attack. The widow, identified as Mellen, had reportedly been invited to the funeral to allow her children to pay their last respects to their father. However, tensions escalated when she refused to perform a cultural ritual that would signify her continued bond to the deceased or clear her for remarriage.

Defying her in-laws’ demands, Mellen’s refusal led to a violent assault, with the assailants beating her and forcibly making her comply. Police have condemned the act and vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice.
