United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders in the Nyanza region have welcomed the latest InfoTrak opinion poll that ranks President William Ruto as the country’s most popular presidential candidate and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki second, saying the findings provide fresh momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to The Kenyan Tabloid on Monday shortly after the survey was released, Homa Bay UDA Chairman Kennedy Obuya described the poll as encouraging but said the President’s reported support in Nyanza remained below the party’s expectations.

Obuya said the survey, which indicates President Ruto enjoys about 40% support in the region, should serve as a wake-up call for party supporters to intensify grassroots mobilization and voter registration campaigns.

“We have seen the opinion poll released by Infotrak showing the strength of party leaders seeking the highest office in the country. We are happy with the findings, but the rating is still low because the survey shows President Ruto has only 40% support in Nyanza. We will use this as a challenge to mobilize more voters so that the ratings rise significantly,” Obuya said.

He expressed confidence that the President’s popularity in the region would improve substantially before the next General Election.

Obuya said the party was targeting at least 80% support by January 2027 and ultimately hopes President Ruto will secure more than 95% of the vote in Nyanza during the elections.

The UDA official also welcomed the survey’s findings on political parties, which reportedly placed UDA at 22% support nationally, narrowly ahead of ODM at 21%.

He said the ruling party would step up its grassroots campaigns to increase its support beyond 60%, with an eventual target of 65% by the time Kenyans head to the polls.

UDA supporter John Okello also hailed the survey, saying it reflected growing confidence in President Ruto’s development agenda, particularly in regions where the party previously had limited support.

According to Okello, the administration’s infrastructure projects and national development initiatives have helped expand UDA’s popularity in Luo Nyanza and Western Kenya.

“President Ruto has delivered. He has undertaken major development projects across the country, and Kenyans have recognised that through this survey. I urge my people to stand with him and ensure support from the Luo community rises to at least 70% in the next survey,” he said.

Okello further argued that President Ruto should retain Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki as his running mate in the next election, saying the survey demonstrates that Kindiki remains the most suitable deputy.

He also urged ODM leaders to continue working with the Kenya Kwanza administration through appointments in government and State corporations, saying collaboration would promote national development.
