Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has expressed deep gratitude to President William Samoei Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for their joint visit to Kisumu County, during which they commissioned several key development projects.

“On behalf of the people of Kisumu County, I wish to extend our heartfelt and sincere gratitude to H.E. President William Ruto and Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga following their successful joint visit to our great county last week,” Governor Nyong’o said in a statement.

The leaders’ visit came just days before the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations held in Homa Bay County. In Kisumu, they presided over the commissioning of the Makasembo Affordable Housing Project – Phase 1, the Lake Victoria Marina Affordable Housing Project in Kirembe, and the groundbreaking of Phase 3 of the Makasembo project.

Governor Nyong’o particularly commended Raila Odinga for donating five hectares of land in Kirembe, Kisumu West Sub-county, to support the affordable housing initiative.

“We are deeply grateful to Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga for his generous donation of five hectares of land. It is a strong gesture of support for the government’s national housing agenda,” he said.

The governor also lauded President Ruto’s administration for initiating a broad portfolio of development projects in Kisumu, many of which are progressing steadily.

Among the flagship projects highlighted is the tarmacking of the Mamboleo–Miwani Road, which Nyong’o described as a strategic artery for enhancing trade and mobility across the region. He also cited the near-completion of the Kabonyo Kanyagwal Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence in Nyando Sub-county. The KSh 3 billion facility will have the capacity to produce 28 million fingerlings annually, a significant step in tackling fish stock depletion in Lake Victoria.

In the aviation sector, Nyong’o noted that the new Air Traffic Control tower at Kisumu International Airport is now 80% complete. The KSh 314 million upgrade is expected to significantly enhance air traffic capacity in the western region.

The governor emphasized that Kisumu residents support the growing collaboration between President Ruto and Raila Odinga, saying it promotes national unity and inclusive development.

“As a county, we stand firmly behind the vision outlined in the recently signed MoU that underpins a broad-based government,” he stated.

Nyong’o also extended a warm invitation to President Ruto to visit Kisumu anytime and urged both leaders to continue their joint national tours to foster unity and progress.

“We welcome the President to Kisumu anytime. The people of this county stand firmly behind the spirit of cooperation and shared vision for Kenya’s future,” he added.
