Bungoma Media has emerged victorious in the 2025 Safaricom Mpesa Sokoni Festival 5-aside football tournament, clinching the title after edging out Kakamega “A” 3-2 in a nail-biting final played at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday.

Led by standout players Duncan Kwobah, Hillary ‘Mavitu’ Situma, and MC Reagan, the Bungoma side swept through the group stages with relative ease before facing stiff competition in the knockout stages.
Their quarterfinal against a combative Jabali TV outfit, captained by Daniel Dembede and Fred Waguda, proved to be their first real test. After withstanding early pressure, Bungoma Media turned the tide with tactical discipline and individual brilliance to secure a 2-0 win.
In the semifinals, Bungoma squared off against Kisumu’s Megatronics, a team anchored by tournament-favorite goalkeeper Rushdie Oudia alongside Ondari Ogega, Otieno Jack, Washington Onyango, Onesmus Ngala, Olivia Odhiambo, and Bramwel Bwire.
Both teams, having dominated their respective groups, played to a goalless draw in regulation time. Bungoma Media held their nerve in the penalty shootout to earn their place in the final.

On the other side of the bracket, Kakamega “A” had dispatched Kakamega “B” to set up an all-Western Kenya showdown in the final. Despite an ambitious two-team entry strategy from Kakamega’s media fraternity, only one side progressed to the last match.
Bungoma Media walked away with the KSh50,000 winner’s prize, while Kakamega “A” settled for KSh30,000 as runners-up.
The tournament featured 16 teams drawn from across Western Kenya and Nyanza, grouped into four pools. Kakamega “A” striker Fidel Mbaraka finished as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, closely followed by Bramwel Bwire with five.
