Six charged in Kisumu court over bar break-in and stolen property

Six suspects were charged at the Winam Law Courts over burglary and handling stolen property after breaking into a bar in Kisumu.

The six suspects were charged before Principal Magistrate Dennis Ogal at the Kisumu court. The accused were Boniface Odhiambo, Mercy Akinyi, Sylvia Wanjiru, Emily Awino, John Odhiambo, and Erick Omondi. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

According to the charge sheet, the six accused broke into Grammi Bar and Restaurant, owned by Rachael Anyango, on the night of February 25-26, 2026. They were accused of stealing various commodities from the bar, including alcohol and a sound bar from Sony worth 650,000 shillings.

On a separate count, Wanjiru, Awino, Odhiambo, and Omondi were charged with handling stolen property at the Kondele location within Kisumu Central Sub-County. They also pleaded not guilty to this charge.

The six were released on a bond of 100,000 shillings each or a cash bail of 70,000 shillings with an alternative surety of an equivalent amount.

The case is set to be mentioned on 30th March 2026, with a hearing set on 12th May 2026.
