Nyalenda A ward aspirant Mwalimu Tony Oluoch has called on young people across Nyanza to take full advantage of the ongoing national ID and voter registration campaign, saying their participation is crucial ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Kenyan Tabloid on Monday in Kisumu, Oluoch revealed he has been actively mobilising youth from Nyalenda slums, personally ferrying them to registration centres to ensure they obtain identification cards and are listed as voters. He said more than 150 young people have already been successfully registered ahead of the next polls.
“I would like to call upon our youth to come out in large numbers and register as voters. Apart from the ID and voter registration initiative sponsored by Interior PS Raymond Omollo, I have also ensured that over 150 youths from Nyalenda are registered as new voters,” he said.
Oluoch noted that meaningful youth engagement is key to curbing rising cases of crime, emphasising that employment opportunities offer a sustainable solution. He said his network has helped secure jobs for several Nyalenda youths in the sugar industry and various non-governmental organisations.
“Nyalenda A needs a visionary leader who can restore dignity in the slum through improved security, better healthcare, and access to quality education,” he added.
He also urged political leaders to unite in encouraging voter registration rather than exploiting young people for protests or disruptive activities, arguing that such tactics do nothing to address poverty or improve livelihoods.
During the interview, Oluoch conveyed his condolences to the family of veteran radio presenter Festus Amimo, who collapsed and died at a Nairobi hotel on Sunday morning. He described Amimo as a fearless broadcaster who shaped public discourse through his hard-hitting morning show ‘Gari Mokinyi’ on KBC’s Mayienga FM.
“He was a brave man who confronted leaders with tough questions, exposed societal rot, and challenged lazy leadership. His show was a true hot seat,” Oluoch said.
