The Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders, Ker Odungi Randa, has called for unity and restraint among the Luo people as the nation mourns the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as “a unifier and a true son of the community.”

Speaking emotionally during a tribute session at Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu on Wednesday, Ker Odungi paid glowing tribute to Raila, calling him “the pillar who held the Luo together across generations and all over the world.”
He said the late opposition leader tirelessly championed cohesion, pride, and progress among the Luo people, while standing firm for justice and democracy in Kenya.
Recalling their deep friendship, Ker Odungi revealed that he had known Raila since childhood, sharing that Kenya’s first Vice President, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, had entrusted the young Raila to his care, a duty he faithfully upheld for decades.
“I am broken beyond repair,” he said tearfully. “Raila was not only a national leader but also my confidant and brother who always believed in my leadership as Ker, even during our most difficult moments.”
Ker Odungi urged Luo governors, political leaders, and the diaspora to honor Raila’s memory by promoting peace, unity, and solidarity, noting that “nothing would please Amollo more than seeing his people stand together.”
Raila Odinga died in India on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, after suffering a heart attack. In accordance with his will, he will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, seventy-two hours after his death.
